SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities

goal11a.png

SDG 11 aims to build inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and human settlements—centering urban-rural development as a core pillar of global sustainability and improving the quality of life. It addresses key areas including accessible public spaces, cultural/natural heritage protection, affordable housing, sustainable transportation, disaster resilience, and inclusive urban planning for all groups, with the goal of fostering livable, cohesive communities.

However, global progress has been uneven: rapid urbanization has brought challenges like inadequate housing, traffic congestion, pollution, and insufficient basic services (particularly for millions in substandard housing in developing countries), while cultural heritage sites face threats from unplanned development and climate change. Achieving SDG 11 by 2030 requires increased investment in a sustainable infrastructure and inclusive policies, serving as a blueprint for equitable, livable environments worldwide.
